Post-truth

Here is the Oxford Dictionary definition of post-truth:

“Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.”

Post-truth was claimed by the Oxford Dictionary to be the word of the year 2016. Why?

A research by the Oxford Dictionary revealed that use of the word post-truth has increased by – about – 2,000% over its usage in 2015. It was often associated with the noun ‘politics’, since international politics commentators used this neologism to explain events such as the result of the EU referendum in the UK and the election of president Trump in the USA.
