This button is <strong>now being replaced by the Google Assistant<\/strong><\/span> and by the Actions supported by the Google Assistant app.<\/p>\n<h2><span>Why is the switch from Voice Search to the Google Assistant so important?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>The introduction of Google Assistant shows us how <strong>Google is moving toward an &#8220;AI-first&#8221; <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"UX\" href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/user-experience\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/user_experience;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/User_experience;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/User_experience;http:\/\/no.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Brukeropplevelse;http:\/\/de.dbpedia.org\/resource\/User_Experience;http:\/\/en.dbpedia.org\/resource\/User_experience;http:\/\/it.dbpedia.org\/resource\/User_Experience;http:\/\/es.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Experiencia_de_usuario;http:\/\/et.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Kasutajakogemus;http:\/\/id.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Pengalaman_pengguna;http:\/\/pl.dbpedia.org\/resource\/User_experience;http:\/\/da.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Brugeroplevelse;http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/user_experience\" >user experience<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and it is\u00a0getting closer to achieving <strong>the true underlying potential of its large semantic network<\/strong> that consistently changes the way we search and consume information. We are looking at the surface of this changes when for instance the\u00a0<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Google Zero-Result SERP &#8211; 2018\" href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/google-zero-result-serp-2018\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_zero-result_serp_-_2018\" >Zero-Result<\/a> SERP was\u00a0first introduced.<\/p>\n<p>The red microphone button that previously triggered a simple voice search can now &#8211; with the Google Assistant &#8211; help us accomplish a lot more tasks including actions implemented in third-party applications that offer services in a variety of different sectors. We recently analyzed the new directory that Google created to help users discover third-party\u00a0Assistant actions and here is a breakdown of the top categories by the number of intents.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7821\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/google-action-directory-breakdown-of-category-wordlift.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1021\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/google-action-directory-breakdown-of-category-wordlift.png 1021w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/google-action-directory-breakdown-of-category-wordlift-300x110.png 300w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/google-action-directory-breakdown-of-category-wordlift-768x282.png 768w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/04\/google-action-directory-breakdown-of-category-wordlift-150x55.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>How did this happen?<\/h2>\n<p>On the latest Android devices running the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/google-assistant\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_assistant;https:\/\/www.wikidata.org\/wiki\/Q25025241;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Google_Assistant\" >Google Assistant<\/a>, the Voice Search was causing <strong>an inconsistent user experience<\/strong> and\u00a0<span>it was hard to grasp why one voice search was popping up from the bottom of the screen why another one was coming from the top.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How can I optimize\u00a0content for the Google Assistant?<\/h2>\n<p>Online publishers can make their content ready for the Google Assistant by <strong>adding support for AMP and the adequate\u00a0structured data markup<\/strong>.
