Here is the link to one of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/don_norman_on_design_and_emotion?language=en\">short presentations from TED<\/a> in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Norman is also known to the public for books and manuals such as \u201c<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/design-everyday-things\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/the_design_of_everyday_things;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0hn9571;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/The_Design_of_Everyday_Things;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/The_Design_of_Everyday_Things\" >The Design of Everyday Things<\/a>,\u201d which was perfectly summarized by a funny occurrence in Rome in a bus of the city transportation system.<br \/>\nTalking about &#8220;<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/things-make-us-smart\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/things_that_make_us_smart\" >Things that make us smart<\/a>&#8220;, Norman classifies humans in 3 categories:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those who <strong>build <\/strong>artifacts;<\/li>\n<li>Those who <strong>use <\/strong>them;<\/li>\n<li>Those who <strong>observe<\/strong>: the sky surrounding the earth, the events, human behaviours etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s a flow that has shaped the funnel of human evolution:\u00a0<strong>BUILD\u00a0&#8211; USE &#8211; OBSERVE<\/strong> and vice-versa; these three attitudes follow each other in a recurrent, never ending process: for example, from the observation of how something is made or used, new ideas\/products arise.<br \/>\nWordLift allows you to reproduce the virtuous funnel <strong>BUILD\u00a0&#8211; USE &#8211; OBSERVE<\/strong> when creating content for your website. WordLift is a semantic web organizer, a new product for all bloggers that publish content on the web through the <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Content Management System\" href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/content-management-system\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/content_management_system;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0k23c;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Content_management_system;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Content_management_system\" >CMS<\/a> <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/wordpress\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/wordpress;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02vtpl;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/WordPress;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/WordPress\" >WordPress<\/a>. The software semi-automatically associates a group of metadata that translates all kind of content into a language read by machines, with the aim to increase the visibility of the information given to users and to make it easier to find it. WordLift allows you to <strong>BUILD<\/strong>\u00a0the metadata of your content, <strong>USE<\/strong> them to increase its value, and <strong>OBSERVE<\/strong> the results to find new angles and new directions for your website and editorial plan.<br \/>\nWordLift is the result of over 10 years of \u201cresearch and development\u201d, applied to two EU funded research projects (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iks-project.eu\">IKS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mico-project.eu\">MICO<\/a>) by a team that since 1998 has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>BUILT<\/b>\u00a0platforms and web systems for users;<\/li>\n<li><strong>USED<\/strong>\u00a0the web to satisfy curiosity and professional demands;<\/li>\n<li><strong>OBSERVED<\/strong>\u00a0technology and the evolution of the web since its birth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>WordLift is a technology that allows you to classify information: a knowledge organizer. The design approach that has informed its production stages is a derivative of <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/ergonomics\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/ergonomics\" >Ergonomics<\/a>, the discipline that studies the interaction between a system and its users.<br \/>\nWordLift classifies information to build and run <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/dataset\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/dataset;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02cck;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/Data_set;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Data_set;http:\/\/de.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Dataset;http:\/\/pt.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Conjunto_de_dados;http:\/\/en.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Data_set;http:\/\/it.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Dataset;http:\/\/es.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Conjunto_de_datos;http:\/\/cs.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Dataset;http:\/\/pl.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Zbi\u00f3r_danych;http:\/\/nl.dbpedia.org\/resource\/Dataset\" >dataset<\/a> open (compatible with the LoD cloud), just the same way genes that make up the DNA give instructions to build and run our organism.<\/p>\n<p>Classifications help us finding the things we are looking for. Classification systems are useful to organize knowledge as well.\u00a0<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/shivali-ramamrita-ranganathan\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/shiyali_ramamrita_ranganathan\" >Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan<\/a>, an Indian mathematician, introduced the fundamental categories of classification back in the first half of \u2018900, identifying the ones valid for all disciplines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Space and time<\/em><\/strong>, on which everyone agrees;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Energy<\/em><\/strong>, referring to activity or dynamism which in the field of semantics is the \u201cagent that takes an action\u201d;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Matter<\/em><\/strong>, typical of a material or its properties;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Personas<\/em><\/strong> to point out the main object of the context even in the cases when no human beings are involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They are almost identical, to the 5 Ws used in marketing or the 4Ws typical of content organization categories: <strong>Who<\/strong>, <strong>Where<\/strong>, <strong>When<\/strong>, <strong>What<\/strong>. It takes good writing, great titles, depth of content. Everything in the right place.
