{"id":11943,"date":"2019-12-19T18:55:17","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T17:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/?p=11943"},"modified":"2021-11-03T18:21:55","modified_gmt":"2021-11-03T17:21:55","slug":"cameos-on-google","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/cameos-on-google\/","title":{"rendered":"Cameos on Google in a Nutshell"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is Cameos on Google?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Google Cameos<\/strong> is a new &#8211; <em>invite-only&nbsp;<\/em>&#8211; Google Search experiment to let people (<strong>that already appear in Google Knowledge Graph<\/strong>) <strong>record videos for answering simple questions<\/strong> related to their work and\/or life experience.<\/p>\n<p>Video-answers appear in Google Search right below the knowledge panel; the same answers are also presented on Google Discover and can pop up on the&nbsp;Google Assistant when a user asks something about that person.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Cameos&nbsp;<\/b><span>on&nbsp;<\/span><b>Google&nbsp;<\/b><span>lets you be the authority on you. This is how Google explains it.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Here is how Google Cameos work<\/h2>\n<p>Quite simply, here is how it worked for me:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I received an invitation by email<\/li>\n<li>I downloaded the Google Cameos APP on my phone (you can find it for both <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.cameos&amp;hl=en_US\">Android<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/US\/app\/id1243089585\">iOS<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Upon starting the app (and here is where the fun begins), it will start generating questions <strong>by looking at the information Google has in its Knowledge Graph<\/strong>; these questions are divided into two categories:<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>For the fans<\/strong>&nbsp;(things that are more closely related to the information Google has about you)<br \/>\n&#8211; <strong>Trending topics<\/strong> (most frequent questions on topics that relates to you)<\/li>\n<li>Simply by choosing a question you can start recording and, if you like the preview, you can send the video and<\/li>\n<li>The video gets published in an hour or so on Google Search below the knowledge panel<\/li>\n<li>You get from the app a quick overview in terms of &#8220;Total Impressions&#8221; and &#8220;Watches&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11945\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11945\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11945\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Cameos-on-Google.001.png\" alt=\"Cameos on Google\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Cameos-on-Google.001.png 1024w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Cameos-on-Google.001-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Cameos-on-Google.001-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Cameos-on-Google.001-150x113.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11945\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cameos on Google<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>What do you need to use Google Cameos?<\/h2>\n<p>Right now the experiment is limited and you will need to get an invite to partecipate but, here is what I did before getting the invitation.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Get your name\/entity in Google&#8217;s Knowledge Graph (not trivial but these days not so difficult either)<\/li>\n<li>Get your entity verified &#8211; if your name appears with a Knowledge panel you can get started with the verification process from there &#8211; alternatively you can you start from <a href=\"https:\/\/posts.withgoogle.com\/\">Posts on Google<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make sure the content about you is always fresh and up to date (you can suggest edits on the information available on the Knowledge Panel)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11947\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11947\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11947\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Untitled-4.001.png\" alt=\"From Cameos to Google Discover\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Untitled-4.001.png 1024w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Untitled-4.001-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Untitled-4.001-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Untitled-4.001-150x113.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11947\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From Cameos to Google Discover<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Is Google trying again to become a Social Network?<\/h2>\n<p>Well, yes in a way the medium is similar, the user is entice to invest on his own personal branding and to engage with his\/her audience on Google&#8217;s channels. While we only see it happening for people in the Knowledge Graphit is easy to expect that anyone is already in <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Knowledge Panels\" href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/google-knowledge-graph\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_knowledge_graph;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.0jwvf5b;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/Knowledge_Graph;http:\/\/data.qa.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_knowledge_graph;http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_knowledge_graph;http:\/\/data.qa.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/google_knowledge_graph\" >Google&#8217;s Knowledge Graph<\/a> one way or another. Try to ask Google to call a friend from Twitter and you will find yourself in the <em>awkward position<\/em> of accessing a phone number of a person that, yes you know, but who is not in your phone&#8217;s contact list, and all of this displayed with a nice-looking material card containing a photo of that person taken from&#8230;well, the web.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11958\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/12\/Screenshot_20191219-185846.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"347\" height=\"587\"><\/p>\n<h2>The 3 things I learnt from the Google Cameos experiment<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>The <strong>SERP is getting richer and richer<\/strong> to let people interact with each others in all sort of ways;<\/li>\n<li>Google&#8217;s interactions and activation channels are <strong>built on top of its ever-growing knowledge graph<\/strong>; the more data you provide the easier it gets for Google to let you connect with your audience &#8211; this is valid for a small business, an individual and a brand. In this particular case <strong>the most exciting piece of technology is the machinery used to generate the questions by looking at the data in the Knowledge Graph<\/strong>. Let me give you an example, since Google knows that I have co-founded several companies and I am currently holding a CEO position &#8211; my questions are all gravitating about being a CEO, starting up a company and acting as a founder. Generating novel questions from Knowledge Graph is one of these tech challenges the ML\/DL community is very excited about; as a marketer this means that the more I expand the&nbsp;data related to my entities the more occasions I get of interacting with my audience;<\/li>\n<li>Google&#8217;s heavily investing on its own <strong>Walled Garden<\/strong> by providing an <strong>AI-driven communication platform<\/strong> where <strong>everyone can <em>also<\/em> buy ads<\/strong> &#8211; it&#8217;s interesting to see as these experiments on the &#8220;organic&#8221; front tend to have their own &#8220;paid&#8221; counterpart (think for instance of the lead generation that has been recently introduced on Google Ads) &#8211; this means that a lot is changing in the way that&nbsp;organic search work and the stronger your brand is the more chances you have in capturing users attention.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now, it&#8217;s really time to get famous and start playing with Cameos ?<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Cameos on Google?
