However, if your Google Analytics tracking is installed via Google Tag Manager, the default integration will not work so a custom integration via GTM will have to be performed.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, <strong>integrating the semantic entity tracking via GTM is really easy<\/strong> (as you will see below) so you don\u2019t need to hire a <a href=\"https:\/\/analyticshelp.io\">Google Analytics expert<\/a> for this.<\/p>\n<p>To integrate semantic web analytics via Google Tag Manager you need to do 5 things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Enable \u201cAnalytics Settings\u201d in WordLift plugin;<\/li>\n<li>Create the \u201cEntity Type\u201d and \u201cEntity <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" title=\"Uniform resource identifier\" href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/uniform-resource-identifier\/\" which sends the event with the entity data to Google Analytics.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>Enabling \u201cAnalytics Settings\u201d in WordLift plugin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In your <a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\"  href=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/entity\/wordpress\/\" data-id=\"http:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl0216\/entity\/wordpress;http:\/\/rdf.freebase.com\/ns\/m.02vtpl;http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/WordPress;http:\/\/dbpedia.org\/resource\/WordPress\" >WordPress<\/a> dashboard, navigate to WordLift \/ Settings \/ Analytic Settings and enable the analytic settings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11537 size-full\" the \u201cEntity Type\u201d and \u201cEntity URI\u201d custom dimensions in Google Analytics <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After you have enabled analytics settings in WordLift, you need to go to the admin area of your Google Analytics account, and under property settings, click on \u201cCustom dimensions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11538 size-large\" dimensions with the scope set to \u201cHit\u201d type. In our example we have named the custom dimensions \u201cEntity URI\u201d and \u201cEntity Type\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11539 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/custom-dimensions.png\" alt=\"Custom dimensions entity_type and entity_URL\" width=\"957\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/custom-dimensions.png 957w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/custom-dimensions-300x52.png 300w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/custom-dimensions-768x132.png 768w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/custom-dimensions-150x26.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 957px) 100vw, 957px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Adding the required variables in Google Tag Manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After creating the custom dimensions in Google Analytics, we need to create the variables which we will use to pass data from WordLift to Google Tag Manager and from there, to Google Analytics.<\/p>\n<p>In total, in this step we need to create the following variables: <strong>event_action<\/strong>,<strong> wl_event_category<\/strong>, <strong>wl_event_label<\/strong>, <strong>wl_event_value<\/strong>, <strong>wl_event_uri<\/strong>, <strong>wl_index_uri<\/strong>, <strong>wl_event_type<\/strong>, <strong>wl_index_type.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this, open Google Tag Manager, navigate to \u201c<strong>Variables<\/strong>\u201d from the left menu and click on the \u201c<strong>New<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11540\" src=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm-1024x437.png\" alt=\"Create new variables\" width=\"1024\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm-1024x437.png 1024w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm-768x328.png 768w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm-150x64.png 150w, https:\/\/wordlift.io\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/10\/create-new-variable-gtm.png 1324w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the panel that appeared, we need to enter the name of the variable (ex: <strong>event_action<\/strong>) and set the variable type as Data Layer variable with the \u201c<strong>Data Layer Variable Name<\/strong>\u201d field set to the name of the variable (ex: <strong>event_action<\/strong>). After configuring the variables, we need to click on the save button.<\/p>\n<p>We need to repeat this process for all of the variables mentioned above. Next, in the \u201c<strong>Google Analytics Settings<\/strong>\u201d variable (if you don\u2019t have one you need to create it), by clicking on \u201c<strong>More Settings<\/strong>\u201d (1), open the \u201c<strong>Custom dimensions<\/strong>\u201d options (2). In the \u201c<strong>This trigger fires on<\/strong>\u201d section, select \u201c<strong>Some Custom Events<\/strong>\u201d (3) and choose \u201c<strong>event_action<\/strong>\u201d equals \u201c<strong>Mentions<\/strong>\u201d (4).
